EPCC for the Development Of 500kV Overhead Transmission Line 1,000 – 1200 MW Pulau Indah Combine Cycle Power Plant To 500/275/132kV Olak Lempit Substation

JV: WW Engineering & Construction Sdn Bhd And Larsen & Toubro Limited

This project established a 500kV overhead line from the PMU Pulau Indah Combined Cycle Power Plant to the 500/275/132kV PMU Olak Lempit. The purpose was to connect a 1,200 MW power generation plant on Pulau Indah to the Olak Lempit main intake substation. Commencing on 31 December 2020, the project was completed on 28 October 2023.

The scope of work involved the complete design, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the overhead lines based on the design & build contract. It entailed a double circuit 500kV with a capacity of 2800MVA for approximately 38km in route length. Given the relatively short distance for electricity transmission networks, losses were minimal.

New 45 series towers were constructed from the PMU Pulau Indah Power Plant to PMU Olak Lempit, crossing over future transmission lines, rivers, and highways. These towers, standing at 147 meters across 810 meters wide of Selat Lumut, represent two of the highest transmission towers in Malaysia and possibly Southeast Asia.

This project will enhance the grid system's resilience and stability, ensuring the security of power supply for numerous industries and end-users.
